HELLO AND WELCOME - I am Laura McCracken the creator of Our Virtual Backpack (OVB), Our Virtual Bookmark (OVBM), Most PriviIeged Tourist (MPT) and owner of Red Cat Yoga LLC (RCY) . I am a Mother of two and have worked in education for 12 years. I have been a military wife for 25 years and a substitute teacher for students from Elementary through High school since 2013. Education as a career has been rewarding, challenging and totally educational for me ! I love it.

This website was the product of Covid-19 and began in February 2020 as lockdown started in Italy where my family were living.

There were so many amazing ideas and resources appearing I wanted a place to keep them and a place to share. Literally a virtual backpack of ideas.

My inspiration for this website were the parents of younger children and their teachers. I had time as my children were older, but I clearly remember the feeling of not having enough time. Managing a virtual learning world for your children before and after Covid is a daunting prospect. My wish is that this site gives you the tools you need, and provide a virtual sanctuary for kids, parents and educators to come and explore. It is called 'our' virtual backpack for a reason so please get involved join our Facebook page share resources and if you enjoy the site - please share with others.

Our mission is to provide one space for educators, teachers, parents and guardians to find free educational resources for children of all ages, development and interests. Resources are organized into subjects, age ranges and bonus pages. Among much more the mission is to include virtual field trips, mental health tips, seasonal pages, resources for parents, a community recipe swap and a page dedicated to ideas which do not involve a screen.

The children of those heroes. Not only were they at home and not at school with their friends, but they also had a parent or parents they hardly saw due to their long hours.
To the parents who were manning the home-front during this time, working and educating. Juggling stress and managing time.
